Graham qualified from the University of Nottingham in 2004 with a BSc Hons degree in Physiotherapy. After spending the winter playing cricket in New Zealand, he returned to the UK and gained a place working in private practice part time in 2005. Alongside this he also accepted positions at BAE Systems in their occupational health department and at the medical department of Barrow Raiders Rugby League.

From working in a wide variety of settings, his path then led him to take on the clinical lead physiotherapist role at BAE Systems in 2009. This role allowed him to gain valuable experience in the early intervention of a wide variety of musculoskeletal injuries, and its value in reducing the sickness absence of the employee. Through this position he has acquired great experience in occupational health, and is a very competent DSE and workplace assessor.

He has continued his role at Barrow Raiders Rugby League throughout the years, where he provides training cover and treatment to the squad throughout their season. His 9 years experience working in this environment has allowed him to develop his skills in managing the athlete from acute injury to allow return to play in the most effective and efficient method possible.

Upon leaving this role in October 2014, he decided to establish Graham Dawson Physiotherapy, with the ultimate goal of providing a quality healthcare service to the local residents of South Cumbria.

Since qualifying, he has done extensive training in orthopaedic medicine, acupuncture, and attended many courses delivered by some of the UK's leading speakers. He has vast experience in the use of manual therapy in his treatments, and has special interests in the shoulder, spinal conditions, acupuncture in the management of soft tissue injuries and the use of exercise in returning the patient to their level of function in an efficient manner.

To further develop his practice, in 2020, he undertook the internationally renowned SMUG mentorship in Diagnostic Ultrasound scanning. This has allowed him to continue to be at the forefront of physiotherapy provision in the area by offering patients the ability to be 100% confident on their diagnosis, and that their treatment plan is tailored specifically to this. Since he has qualified, he has been invited to teach on SMUG courses in London, invited to speak at international conferences, and travelled the county providing advanced assessments in clinics that have complex patients.

Outside of work, Graham is a keen cricketer, budding musician and avid observer of anything sport related!

Stephen Faigal
Sports Rehabilitator

Stephen is a graduate with a BSc Hons degree in Sports Rehabilitation from the University of Cumbria in 2022. His love of sport activity, especially athletics and rugby league whilst at school, and interest in physical fitness lead to him wanting to pursue a career in that environment. He has fully enjoyed and immersed himself within the content of his degree, which has enabled him to specialise in musculoskeletal injury assessment and rehabilitation planning. This blended with being a gym enthusiast allowed him to confidently work with athletes and clients with a variety of different backgrounds. This has been evident with his work within the medical department of Barrow Raiders Rugby League, which he has been a part of since 2020, gaining valuable mentoring and skill development through their highly experienced team. Not content with the learning that he has just completed, Stephen is currently studying for his Masters Degree in Strength and Conditioning at UCLAN to further his studies and become a more well-rounded practitioner for the benefit of his patients.

Within the last 3 years of studying Stephen has been able to craft his sports massage techniques by learning from leaders within the profession, which has allowed him to be taught this skill with the latest concepts and evidence base. This, coupled with  with excellent interpersonal and communication skills through 7 years of working in customer service, gives him a fantastic base to build his career around. He is passionate about his job as he believes it fulfills his purpose through helping those in need, willing to go the extra mile to ensure he provides the best possible service to his clients. He is very excited about basing himself in the Transformation Unit, as he believes it gives him a fantastic rehabilitation setting to work from, which will only benefit his patients.
